TOR: Diving in the Deep Web

Have you ever felt like your online activities are being monitored and tracked by unknown entities? Or worse yet, have you ever been a victim of cybercrime? Well, you're not alone. The internet can be a scary place, and it's essential to take measures to protect yourself. In this article, we're going to introduce you to Tor – a powerful tool that can help keep you safe and secure online.

Tor, short for The Onion Router, is a free and open-source software that helps protect your online privacy and anonymity by routing your internet traffic through a series of random nodes around the world.

  • Clearnet, Deep Web, and Dark Web:

The clearnet refers to the portion of the internet that is indexed by search engines and accessible through regular web browsers like Google. The deep web, on the other hand, refers to any part of the internet that is not indexed by search engines and requires special software or authentication to access. Finally, the dark web is a subset of the deep web that is intentionally hidden and often associated with illegal activities such as drug trafficking and more.

While Tor is often associated with the dark web, it can also be used to access legitimate and legal content on the clearnet and deep web.

Note: Usually, deep web links are special links that only can be accessed using Tor and they end with ".onion".

Using Tor has several benefits, including protecting your identity and location from online tracking, avoiding censorship and surveillance, and accessing websites that are blocked in your country. Tor has also been used for good in real-world situations, such as journalists and activists in repressive regimes, or whistleblowers and leakers exposing corruption and wrongdoing.

  • To use Tor safely:

1. Use a VPN or Tor bridge to hide the fact that you're using Tor.
2. Avoid downloading or opening files from untrusted sources.
3. Use strong passwords and enable two-factor authentication.
4. Keep your software and operating system up to date.
5. Use a special mail address from a provider of choice.

Tor plays a crucial role in protecting against cyber threats such as identity theft, malware, phishing, and hacking in general. Tor's encryption and anonymization features can help keep your personal and financial information safe from prying eyes, and Tor's distributed network can help prevent DDoS attacks and other types of network-based attacks.

Warning: Using Tor does not make you completely anonymous or invulnerable, and you should still be careful about the information you share online. Additionally, there are some disturbing and illegal content on the dark web that can be accessed through Tor, and it's important to report any suspicious activity you come across.

In conclusion, Tor can be a powerful tool for protecting your online privacy and security, as long as it is used responsibly and with caution. By understanding the differences between the clearnet, deepweb, and dark web, and taking steps to protect yourself while using Tor, you can enjoy the benefits of online anonymity without putting yourself at risk.

  1. Do you know of a social media website on Tor that allows me to post things anonymously? Something like Facebook or Twitter would be great. Thanks in advance!

  2. There are many platforms that are similar to the usual social media platforms, even Facebook has a tor based website that allows you to access Facebook features anonymously. Just create an account and don't post anything personal in there and make sure you use it for something legal obviously.
